Homemade Chocolate Frosting

This is SO much better than the canned stuff! The original recipe comes from the Hershey's can and can be found on their website. Here it is:
"PERFECTLY CHOCOLATE" CHOCOLATE FROSTING
1 stick (1/2 cup) butter or margarine
2/3 cup HERSHEY'S Cocoa
3 cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Melt butter. Stir in cocoa. Alternately add powdered sugar and milk, beating to spreading consistency. Add small amount additional milk, if needed. Stir in vanilla. About 2 cups frosting.

I am going to use the recipe for the chocolate frosting but I wasn't sure if the cocoa is suppose to be unsweetened or not. All I have is unsweetened, will that work? Thanks...Ali:-)

Hi, Ali!

Yes. The unsweetened cocoa is what I used, too. Thanks for reading and commenting!

this frosting was very good, although instead of using Hersheys cocoa i used the Nestle Tollhouse Cocoa cuz that is what i had available.

hi, does the powdered sugar in this case need to be icing sugar, or just normal sugar?? Thanks (:

Sorry about the sugar confusion. Icing sugar is called powdered sugar in the states. It is also sometimes called confectioners sugar or 10X sugar. Thanks for the great questions, everyone! :o)

Frosting was great! Although a bit runny, what I do to thicken up?

Adding more powdered sugar should thicken it up. You could refrigerate, but it will melt again if left at room temperature. Thanks for reading and commenting, Buffie!
